Thoughts from Mike Mullins
Monday, April 6, 2009

I thought that to understand what is really happening out here it would be helpful for you all to hear from someone who is in the trenches daily in Ireland. Below is a post from Mike Mullins, Executive Director for Operation Mobilization, here in Ireland. http://ie.om.org

Enjoy what Mike has to say. He truly captured the experience with his words!

Blessings,

BB

As I walked around the practice grounds today and observed the FCA team doing their thing I was almost moved to tears. We have talked about this day and planned it for so long and then to finally see it happen was a wonderful experience. These past few weeks have been a real battle with so many let downs, upsets and unknowns. To see the Lord answer our every need has been so amazing. From a top golf course such as Glasson Hotel and Golf Club giving us the use of the facilities to a local golf shop giving us 2000 golf balls for the week all free of charge, we have seen so many exciting answers to prayer.

I was so blown away today. The layout of the camp stations was so creative and the teaching so professional. I watched as the kids hung on every word spoken by Anders and Ben. This is the first FCA golf camp here in Ireland but also the first golf camp that any of these kids have probably ever attended.

I was impressed also by the attitude and commitment of the camp staff. They really did such a brilliant job with the kids and I thought they really made a huge impression on these kids for the first day. I am convinced that we are going to see lives changed by the end of this week.

The skill levels differed and there were a few out there today who have real potential. I particularly remember Sean and small thin 10 year old left hander who had the most beautiful swing. I am so excited to have this camp and offer kids such as Sean the chance to improve their game and at the same time hear about the love that God has for them.

Having almost 50 kids sign up for this Christian golf camp is no small thing. It gives a glimpse into the potential for this to grow but also shows how a golf camp like this is hugely attractive to kids and can be be a great way to impact lives, for good. The kids are not only learning life values and hearing about the love of God they are seeing it being lived out by these instructors.

Everyone from the owners of Glasson Golf club, members of surrounding golf clubs to parents and local media are all buzzing with praise for the camp and staff. Thanks so much for your prayers. Our first day is over and there are three more to go. The battle continues so please continue to pray (with thanksgiving). The best is yet to come.
April 5, 2009

Alright . . .so here is the deal . . .it is late and I have to make this post short and without pictures because I need sleep. I know my body is fooling me right now cuz I feel fine. THAT IS BECAUSE IT IS STINKIN 5 PM FOR REAL! Camp starts tomorrow and I should be in bed. It is amazing to be here. I love the country, people, food, really everything about it. But since we started planning this camp it has had challenges.

Just over a week ago the original golf club that was to host us pulled the plug because we would be sharing about Jesus during the camp. The OM team went to work and God provided an amazing place called the Glasson Golf Club. However, we were informed late tonight that the area for practice we are going to use is double booked with another local camp. YAH . . .DOUBLE BOOKED! My boss Jim spoke on the phone tonight with the guy running the other camp and he is simply unwilling to work with us or try to figure it out. So at this point it is up to Jesus to make it work.

This is just the most current thing to have happened. Anders Forsbrand, former co captain of the Ryder Cup and our lead clinician, got here today without his golf clubs because his flight was delayed and clubs went to Paris. There are so many more things that I could tell you about but I just do not have time.

I am asking you to pray. Pray that God can work this one out. I have never seen anything like this and neither has Jim. I will post tomorrow with more details from today and the first day of camp because I believe that it will happen!

Dublin, Ireland
Saturday, April 4, 2009

We arrived today from Newark at about 11:00 AM local time. I flew in with three other team members who will be doing the golf camp with me. Donnie, Diana, and Sam. We all had delays getting to Newark and I thought for a little while that I was going to miss my flight to Dublin.

At one point they got on the speaker in Phoenix and said we would be delayed two hours. Then they began boarding us five minutes later only to roll us onto the tarmac to sit in the penalty box. Anyway, we flew all night, got little sleep, but we made it for the chamber of commerce weather in Dublin today. It was spectacular! I could live here if it was like this all the time. Sunny and 50.

The group from Operation Mobilization (OM) picked us up at the airport and we were off to see some sites in the city. We strolled around the streets for a little while before heading into The Dukes for a bite to eat. I decide on the beef in red wine and mushroom sauce with rice for my first true Irish meal experience. It was really yummy.

After we got finished with lunch we headed out for some more of Dublin. Because the weather was so good today there were tons of people in the streets plus performers everywhere who were showing off their skills. We saw everything from bands playing, gospel choirs, human statues, and a dude who made a sand sculpture of a dog. Pretty cool.

Our final stop before we headed to our accommodations for the week was Trinity College which looks like the type of place that if you went there it would make you smart even if you’re not. And oh yah—case you didn’t know—there is plenty of water here too!

Catch ya tomorrow!

Still looking for me lucky charms,

The results are in and the 2008 FCA National Scramble Tournament was again a huge success. The closing holes at the TPC Sawgrass provided great drama as MN 2 faced off in a playoff against TN 2 for the gross division championship crown. Both teams hit incredible shots to the famous island green 17 and matched with birdies to start the playoff. On the 18th, MN 2 clinched the victory by making a uphill right to left eight footer for the win. Congratulations to MN 2 and all the other champions of the 2008 National Scramble Tournament.
