FCA National Scramble Finals Get the scoop on the FCA National Scramble Championship
What is the FCA National Scramble? It is a 3-day amateur National Championship golf tournament hosted by the FCA Golf Ministry as an outreach and cultivation event. More than 90 teams from all over the country come to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, to play in the tournament held this year November 21–23, 2008.
Each day is played on a different golf course, one of which is THE PLAYERS Stadium Course. The other two are the Dye's Valley Course and the Ponte Vedra Golf & Country Club at Sawgrass.
The first night of the tournament, we have a banquet for the players, which includes a speaker and entertainment. Previous speakers have included Tom Randall, Chaplain of the PGA Champions Tour, Director of World Harvest Ministry, and sports missionary to the Philippines. (Watch a clip of Tom Randall's work.)
Our speaker for 2006 was Colts' Chaplain Ken Johnson. Johnson leads a weekly Bible study for coaches and another for players. With his wife, Della, he hosts Bible studies for players and their wives and offers marriage counseling. He normally delivers a short sermon and sometimes sings at the 30-minute worship services over which he is primarily responsible on the eve of most games.
Last year's speaker was sports psychologist, speaker, motivator, and golf expert Dr. David Cook. Dr. Cook has served as "Mental Training Coach" for the two-time World Champion San Antonio Spurs. As past president of the National Sport Psychology Academy, he is known as a leading authority in sport and performance psychology. He has counseled performers from the PGA TOUR, NBA, NFL, MLB, Olympics, and collegiate national championship ranks. FAQs:
